Make a shortlist of all the good service providers you found online and the ones recommended to you by any friends, family members or colleagues.

Your next step should be to check the quality of these options. This is the step that most people fail to take because of lack of knowledge. You would find numerous websites and bloggers on the internet who have put up reviews for various kinds of domain names registration services. It is even possible that you will find some important information through the comments section of some website. You should go through such reviews and comments and filter your shortlist further on their basis.

4. Evaluate the quality of their website:

Once you have shortened your list further, you should visit the websites of all the shortlisted domain name registration services providers and analyze the structure and design. Needless to say, a professional and high quality registration services provider would be very serious about the quality of his website which would mean that the design of his website would be professional and well measured.

Even though the aforementioned ways would help you get the best registration services, you can employ other techniques as well as analyzing the providers' staff, their payment methods etc.

Rules of Engagement

In order to find the right domain name and secure it, you need to keep some basic rules in mind. Here is a couple to get you started:

Keywords are big when it comes to online traffic, what will people type into the search engine to find sites similar to your own? While it is very important that you understand this is just the tip of the iceberg when talking about search engine optimization, finding a domain name that includes a hot search topic is a nice starting point. Keep it simple; do not try to snatch your favorite keyword phrase domain by adding hyphens or numbers in place of words. This can work, but only in a limited fashion because people will forget or become confused when trying to remember the domain name. If you are selling, car parts you would probable love to get your hands on cars dot com, which is highly unlikely but do not compromise by choosing carz dot com.

When you set up a website, your internet identity is based on the domain names you choose. If you choose the wrong name, it could end up hurting your website. What can you do to ensure you choose the best possible web address? Follow these important tips as you make this important decision.

Check Out Top Keywords

One of the suggestions to follow when trying to choose domain names is to check out top keywords that are related to your website. Come up with some phrases and terms that help to describe the domain you want. After coming up with several keywords that apply to your site, you should choose a name that incorporates one of those keywords.

Ensure the Name is Unique

Another important tip for selecting domain names is to ensure the name that you choose is unique. You don't want your site to somehow be confused for another site that is very popular. Do not go with domains that are misspelled, plural, or hyphenated versions of any other name that is established. You don't want to lose your website traffic to the other website.

Keep it As Short As Possible

Keeping your domain as short as possible is another big suggestion to follow. You may be able to register up to 63 characters with some places, but that is far too long. Domain names need to be short enough for people to easily remember, since they need to be able to type it to find your site. Usually it's best to keep the name less than seven characters for the best results.

Go with Easy to Remember Names

You'll also want to select domain names that are easy for people to remember. Try to come up with a name that is memorable. You want your name stuck in the head of those who plan to use your website. Even if you have a great site, people won't be able to tell others about your site if they're never able to remember the name of it. Spend some time brainstorming good names that sound great and come easily to mind.

Try to Use Your Company Name

Using your company's name within the name you choose is also a great suggestion to keep in mind. You'll want the company name to be the name if possible. Most people will start looking for the name of your business if they are trying to find your site, which means it's a good idea to use the company name within the domain names that you choose.

These suggestions can definitely help you make a wise decision when you're trying to choose domain names for your website. Looking at keywords, ensuring the name is unique, and keeping the name short is important. Using your company name and a website name that is easy to remember will only make it easier for you to get people to your site.

Coming Up With A Domain Name

Coming up with a domain name is the first thing you must do to have a winning website. This little article will give you tips on finding that domain name. The domain name must be easy to find and be very memorable. First you must figure out, what will your site will be about. It is best to pick a name that is close to your business or niche. Come up with all the uses your domain will have before the registration process.

Some domain names are used to make it easy on the visitor to your site. And, some are strictly for advertising targeting a particular group. The best recommendation is to pick a name that covers both situations. Doing it this way insures that it can be promoted in all kinds of online advertising. This covers a greater benefit for your website and business.

Regarding Search Engine Optimization or SEO you must create a list of keywords. These keywords must be related to your domain name as well as your website. Be sure to make your domain name as short as possible, this gives you better results. Make sure the domain name you choose will be best for the search engines. The .WS extension is little known, but, is becoming popular. Using .WS will make finding a domain name easier, since not many people use it. This particular extension is a good value, consider where you purchase it.

Online Marketing Tools - How To Find A Great Domain Name

Online Marketing Tools are extremely important to business owners nowadays. Even the fledgling company looking to break into the online marketplace or the home worker looking for an online presence can benefit from the myriad of online marketing tools available.

When setting up any online business, the first thing that needs to be considered is what your name will be online. You need to give thought to what your website domain name will be. This is the location, or address, your customers or clients will go to connect with you online.

When coming up with a domain name, there are two main styles of domain name you need to think about.

Do you want your business name to be in the domain name? Are you looking to generate large volumes of leads for your business from Search Engines?

The second style takes a bit more research and can involve the use of other online marketing tools for keyword research. The outcome would be a list of search keywords people use to find related results to the business you are in. Using these keywords you can set up domain names that match the keyword and, with some Search Engine Optimisation, end up driving large volumes of new customers to your website. Examples of this style of domain name are PlumbersInSacramento.com or ChocolateChipCookieRecipes.com. There is no end to this style of domain that you can apply to your business are or niche.

Whatever style of domain you choose, you need to find an available domain name that has not yet been registered. Out of all the online marketing tools I use for domain name research, I've not yet come across one better than DomainsBot.com.

Use DomainsBot.com to find a domain that matches your needs and is available to register. You are able to see at a glance which ones are available to buy.

Once you have found a domain and you know it is available, find a registrar's website to register the domain. Search Google to find such a website. There are lots to choose from.

One Top Tip before registering your domain. Search for 'discount vouchers' using Google for the registrar you have chosen. You may find that you can get a discount on your domain name. They can be pretty easy to find. Remember, Google is also one of the best online marketing tools out there.

Domain Name Registrars Definition

Registrars for domain names are commercial organizations that have special credits from the organization known as ICANN, as well as the gTLD registry. This stands for "generic top level."

The purpose of a registrar for domain names is to make money by interfacing between someone who wants to register a new domain and the actual organization in question like ICANN. This means that whenever you want to get a site online such as anything with ".com" on the end, you'll need to go through a registrar for domain names.

There are several different prominent companies that focus on this kind of industry online. This allows you the ability to choose between which ones you like. It can help to pick the registrar you want based on price and what sorts of needs you have, for example.

While it is possible to register a domain yourself for a small amount of money by going directly to ICANN in some situations, you generally get added protections when you go in through a registrar for domain names.

This is because these registrars often have programs that allow you to keep your information safe. Another important consideration is how you're going to hose the site that you register. Registrars in many situations often have the added benefit of giving you a package deal in regard to hosting.

Merely registering a site isn't enough to get it online in a way that other people can view. You need to host the site as well. This makes it visible online and allows bandwidth to be used through the site. This can include any pictures people download off your site, and so on.

Certain companies working with domain names have deals regarding hosting if you register through them. This allows you to get both the registration and the hosting with one service. It can be a hassle to try to go to a different company for each service you need, the registration and the hosting, so having a package deal for both can be quite convenient.

Avoiding Scams

It's important to avoid scams when looking for a registrar to register your site online. You can generally do this by checking the reviews for the site in question. Major registrars will have plenty of reviews and they will generally be if not positive, at least not incredibly negative.

Individuals on the Internet will generally provide reviews for each other when it comes to registrars to help protect one another from scams that are set chiefly to steal information form you.

As long as you can keep an eye out for anything that looks like it might not be legit online you should be able to avoid such scams. This is also a goo general Internet principle.

The Advantages Of Aged Domains

If you are building a site to rank high in Google then a possible short cut is to purchase an aged domain. This is just simply a domain that has been around for a while, but has then been dropped and made available. These are usually little more than a new registered domain but can save you months of hard work, giving you a foot up in your niche. Your can gain leverage with aged domains as Google gives more confidence in older sites, some can be purchased for little more that £3.

Older domains can give you a great foundation to build upon. If you register a new niche and go through the usual rigmarole of getting it indexed and ranked, it can take a long time to be noticed in by Google's algorithm.

You can speed up a lot of the processes like back linking and your PR with specific software, but you can't really fake a domain age. Google likes age for this reason because it's almost validation within itself. Not a lot of internet marketers are taking advantage of aged domains so now is the time to get into this before too many people are doing it.

It's an idea to check out aged domains if you are thinking of ranking more quickly, a lot of domain name registrars are now jumping on the band wagon and will give you access to advance aged domain searches, usually for a small extra price.

Thousands of domains are just left by the road side on a weekly basis. The register users just forgot about the site and, for some reason or another, just couldn't take the time out to regularly maintain a site registered to that domain name. To the internet marketer these aged domains are very profitable and provides a way to leverage you above your competition, it's a method highly under-used.

You can pick up these dropped domains for a bargain price and most hosts provide a way of obtaining them very easily. Needless to say these domains hold authority and with authority comes presence. You can use this to great effect in your niche. A lot of these domains will still have back links indexed and pointing to them, if this is the case then you can take a massive short cut when building up a site ranking in Google.

If you are optimising your site with specific keywords then it's always a good option to check for aged domains; you may find one within your target niche.

Here are a few quick pointers if your website is showing up anywhere in Google:

Your site might not be indexed Try to use social bookmarking to leverage your back link and getting indexed faster You may not have enough back links to your site Try some guest blogging and forum commenting to create a back link network to your site The competition may just be too high for the key phrases you are targeting Test your competition strength using Google AdWords. This is a free web tool that allows you to find keywords and check the strength and searches per month. Choosing A Website Name - What If I Choose The Wrong One?

Choosing a website name is a tough decision. It is so difficult for some people that they never get their business online because they feel they will make the wrong choice.

Is there a right or a wrong way to about choosing a website name? If you don't choose the right one, will anyone ever find your site? Has this happened to you? You have a great idea for an online business, but you never buy a domain name?

You would be surprised, or maybe not, how many people this happens to. Well, it doesn't have to be that way. I am going to give you 5 simple rules on how to choose the right domain name for your website.

Rule #1 - Your domain name should be easy to remember.

For example, if you have a business and you sell cat greeting cards, what names do you think you should look for? Well, the obvious would be catgreetingcards.com. This domain name is easy to remember because that is what you sell, cat greeting cards.

Rule #2 - Your domain name should be as short as possible.

Catgreetingcards.com is pretty short. But you could shorten it to catcards.com or kittycards.com or even kittycatcards.com. Do you see what I mean? You wouldn't want to have a domain name like specialkittengreetingcards.com. That name, in my opinion, would be too long.

Rule #3 - Don't be clever with your domain name choice.

Let me be more specific. Don't make up fake words for your domain name or use incorrect spellings because it looks cute or different. The more difficult you make the spelling of the words in your domain name the harder it will be for people to remember it. Let me explain what I mean by that.

Let's go back to the example of the cat greeting cards site. Let's say that you pick the domain name kutekittykatkards.com. This is cute (or kute) and different, but how many people would type the letter "c" instead of the letter "k"? The result? Your customers would end up on a totally different site than yours.

Rule #4 - Always use the.com extension.

The reason behind this is that the.com extension is universally known, unlike the .org or the.net extensions. However, there are exceptions to every rule and I do believe that there are exceptions to this rule.

Let's say that you live in the UK and your site is specific to the UK. Then, you would want to use a geographically specific extension to the UK. I also believe that if you absolutely cannot find the domain name that you really want with a .com extension, you should look at the.net extensions. They are becoming more popular because so many of the.com extensions are taken.

Rule #5 - Pick a domain name that is related to the theme of your site.

Let me show you exactly how to do this. Using your keyword tool, search for the theme of your site and then look for related words. For example, if you look for cat cards, your related keywords are Siamese cat cards, talking cat cards, unique cat cards, etc.

There are literally hundreds of related keywords for you to choose from. Consider this, when you choose a good related keyword for your domain name, this will really help you in the SEO department also.

So, can you choose the wrong domain name? No, not if you follow the rules that I have set out here. It won't be difficult. Just remember to use your keyword tool to help you.

Top Level Domain Names

Domain names for top level domains are often difficult to find for a reasonable price. This is because domain names that are at the top are often reserved for major corporations.

These names may also be reserved for other organizations, or even upcoming television shows. In some situations, there are individuals who do 'prospecting' of names.

This is a process where an individual will buy a domain name that they guess will be useful at a later date. For example, if a new television show is coming out, or if a particular current even hits the news, many people will try to immediately register domain names that are related to the particular topic.

It can cost a hundred dollars or more for a domain name if the one selling it knows that domain names in that range will be worth a lot of money one day. But prospectors try to get a head of the game by guessing what domain names will be worth the most and buying them on the cheap.

Domain Name Business

The reason why this happens is because many top names will sell for thousands of dollars. This obviously only occurs situations where someone guessed completely right about the type of domain that would be needed by a giant corporation in the future.

In some situations, especially in the early decades of the Internet, where domains would be registered for a different purpose, sometimes there would be a coincidence where someone would register their domain for their company, and it would happen to have the same name as a major corporation that showed up later.

This also happened with television shows. In this situation, the corporation, TV show, or other major entity would have to either negotiate with the owner of domain names that they might want, or find something else that may be less suitable.

In recent years, it's common for any big organization to make sure they have the top domains they want before they actually do anything at all. They might by a name before they even completely incorporate, or make any announcements to the public whatsoever.

This is to make sure that no one tries to seize all domains that might be good for them in a strategy to force money out of them. It's a good idea to find the top names you want before hand whenever starting a business for this reason since many people will do this against you if they think that they have any chance of pulling it off.

The Importance Of Domains - Does Having A Dot Com For Your Website Matter?

With the new influx of Top Level domains surging onto the Internet and on to the market for you to buy and name your site after is it as important to go for the.com suffix as it used to be or are there other options available that are more suitable, that will get your site more easily ranked and found by your visitors? This article will give you all you need to know simply and easily so that you can decide - and the one thing you really need to think about...

The.com stands for commercial and this was one of the first "Top Level Domain" extensions created way back in 1985. However since then there have been various other extensions created such as the .biz (business), .edu (education), .gov (government), .net (network) and the new.co as well as all the separate country suffixes such as .co.uk for the United Kingdom, .ie for Ireland and .com .cn for China.

As these have become more wide-spread and more recognized they have started to dent the popularity of.com and they are slowly becoming accepted by the general population and (more importantly) by search engines alike. The question that arises from all of this is - is it still worth trying to get a.com name for your website or are there better options?

The main reason for using your domain depends on the amount of competition there is in your field and at the moment I have still found it easier to rank.com,.net and.info than I have the others - although that being said you can still rank a.info if the competition is weak.

If the.com is taken (and even if it is not in use and you are waiting to try and purchase it) I would consider looking for a different name to get you underway. I would still always try for the.com (unless of course your business is very specific and localised and you don't plan to market internationally then you should go country specific like .ca, .co .uk, .ie or whatever your local extension is) otherwise I would still recommend going for a .com. unfortunately even now everything else still looks a little like MyBusinessCouldNotFindADotCom.co.uk

Although these do rank well in local geographic searches although they still don't tend to rank as well as .com, .net or.org though (and .coms are the hardest to beat!).

With regards to the fairly new .co suffix, my own opinion is that they haven't really taken off yet and I think a lot of people may think it looks like a typo and so default to the .com. although the domain registrars initially had a field day with this one that seems to have died down now (it's just everyone else that thinks it's a spelling mistake!).

For mobile sites there's still many .mobi ones available and they're not as expensive as they used to be. At the moment (and again this may change) they are tending to get preference when searched from mobile devices - and as the number of mobile devices is rapidly increasing and the number of web searches made by them increasing almost exponentially that may be a domain to think about in the near future.

All in all for ranking and for recognition by people and search engines I don't think that you can beat a.com domain unless you are going to stay very localized - however there is one exception that will always win hands down (in my humble opinion!). Whilst a good.com name is still nice to have it is getting less crucial but one thing that will always remain vital to the success of your business is your business name. The name of your business, product, brand or service is paramount and will remain as important as ever! Don't forego on the name of your business just so you can get a domain to that is available - your name is going to be around a lot longer than the ranking benefits you can get from the suffix you choose.

Investing In a Website Domain Is Better Than Investing In Gold?

Gold is currently at one of its all time highs and is performing much better than the U.S. dollar. Everywhere you turn, you will find people wanting to buy gold because they know that as the dollar continues to falter, the value will keep going up. This valuable commodity, in other words, has not come close to hitting its ceiling. So it can seem a little unusual, the idea that a website domain name is better than investing in gold, but depending on which kind of domain that you put your money in, it can be true. The Internet has turned into a gold mine in and of itself. Millions and millions of unique visitors per day go to websites where they feel a passion for a topic and engage in a sense of community. The World Wide Web has created the possibility for businesses and investors to reach out across the globe and instead of seeing the potential in an audience of a few hundred million people, billions across the globe are now potential clients or customers.

Getting revenue from a minuscule fraction of these people can set one on the pathway to success that gold will always have a hard time keeping up with. And as an added bonus, people can get rich investing in web domain names that represent topics they are really passionate about. Money making possibilities are there, but it is first about engaging a portion of who you are around a bevy of like minded individuals. So not only is it possible to see as much if not more financial reward than one would through gold investment, it is also possible to find personal fulfillment through the investment.

Website domain names are also abundant. You can tell from the data provided which sites are the top earners, which ones have more going for them, and which ones are likely to perform better in the future. Gold's value is pretty well established and will be around for quite some time. No one is saying that you should not diversify some of your holdings by investing in gold as a hedge against inflation. But commerce online today is worth more than gold, and so you ignore the possibilities at your own risk.

If you are in the market for a surefire web domain investment, then you must take the following steps:

Top Three Tips On Buying A Domain Name

Buying a domain name is very important to anyone starting up an online business. A domain name can actually make or break your online business. Choosing the perfect one for your venture, before going ahead to purchase must then be well-thought of.

Here are some ideas which you might find helpful for your hunt.

Choose A Name That Reflects Your Business

While this is an obvious thing to do, some still overlook it. Perhaps, you are offering search engine optimization services. Then, craft a name that includes it. Go for ones that are easy to remember. This means you must avoid incorporating special characters in it like hyphens and slashes. If possible, use the extension.com as it is common to most online users.

Consider Some Online Branding

Branding must also be considered when buying a domain name. It becomes your business label and so it must resemble what you offer. Picking one that will be an exact match or a broad match for the keywords used to search for your service or product can definitely boost your ranking in the search engine result pages. Make sure though it does not sound that of your competitor. Your target market might get confused. Unknowingly, you might be driving traffic to your rival's website. As a precaution, do not select a name that is part of any trademark because this can get you to legal troubles. Choose wisely.

Register It Yourself

While some web and development design companies might offer to register the best domain name on your behalf, it is best to do it on your own. This can get you absolute control over your business and your name as well. Pay for quality even though doing business with well-established service providers may cost more. This is important in protecting the image of your business.

Research well about your prospect company before you do any purchase. Choose one that offers customer support through phone. This is the fastest way you could get help if something goes wrong with your website. Check the list of their services and their contact numbers. Call their help line and observe how quick they are in giving response.

Finally, as you verify their price offers check whether they require registration fee. Companies that offer this for free usually intend to own the domain names of their customers who fail to renew on time. And so ensure to probe about their renewal fee rates and conditions as well. This will keep you from being caught off guard by unexpectedly high fees for renewal.

Effectively promoting your business through your website is never impossible. Before spending much of your effort, money and time on your graphics, navigation and the like, buying a domain name should be your top priority. As mentioned earlier, how you make your brand online depends on it big time. Strive then, to arrive at a name that is easy to recognize because it can make your online presence as dynamic as possible.

Important Keywords Tips to Boost Your On-Page Optimisation

The domain name is the foundation to what you are trying to build with your online presence. Your domain can be a great asset to your business particularly if it is SEO-friendly. If you choose the right name for your website, you can get faster ranking in less time and with less effort.

Having your own domain name also makes your company look more professional. There are many sites that let you host your web site for free, however your URL will include their domain with your site as either a sub domain or sub folder. This does not appear professional and will not inspire confidence in your customer like having your own custom domain will.

It can be very important to have your theme keyword or key phrase that you are trying to target in your domain name. This is one keyword tip that the search engines consider when ranking your website.

For example - creditcards.com.au actually ranks higher then Visa and American Express.

While many sites are found initially through search engines, many sites are found through direct navigation. Therefore, it can be important to have your company name in your domain.

This can allow a visitor to remember your name and go directly to your website in the future, instead of searching through a search engine. If a potential customer has more steps to follow the less likely you will be found and the more likely that they will find a competitor.

Other tips when choosing a domain: - Avoid relying on capital letters, domains are not case sensitive and capital letters are wasted - Avoid intentionally misspelled words - Avoid hyphens and dashes - Avoid names that are too long - Keep it very easy to spell - Don't use numbers to replace words, as this will only confuse anyone trying to find your site.

Domain name competition is high, so it is worthwhile buying the name you want as soon as possible, even if you don't plan to launch a website until later down the track. There are many domain search tools to check yours is available.

Domain name checking tools number in the thousands, however most offer similar functionality. Most tools available online today allow you to find out if a domain is available while you type. This means that you can research your targeted niche while checking for domain availability. This is quite a powerful tool and can be quite effective in saving you time and therefore is a strongly recommended keyword research tip.

Do You Really Need a Dot Com (.com) Domain Name? Maybe Not!

Many people are of the opinion that a dot com (.com) domain name is essential if you want to build an internet presence but I am going to show you that may not really be the case if you are not based in America or wanting to do business in America.

Firstly what is the purpose of your website? Is it to blog about your favorite topic, is it to give valuable information, is it to sell products as an affiliate marketer or is it to promote your business? By answering these questions you will be on your way to choosing your domain name.

For example if you are going to blog about Persian Cats because that is your favourite topic, then get a domain name with Persian Cats in the domain name.

What country is your target audience in? While most people say that a.com site is most important I tend to disagree if your target audience is not the US or it is country specific. Why do I say that?

Depending on the country you are in will depend on the search results. If the person searches uses Google they will automatically be directed to the Google search page for that country and the search results are different results from each of the country Google searches.

For example I did a Google search for "buy a domain name" (without the "" around it) in google.com (US) google.co.uk (UK) google.ca (Canada) google.com.au (Australia) and google.co.nz (New Zealand)

Out of the five searches from the 5 different search engines and only looking at the top 5 results there is not one site that appears in all five search engine results. Only one site is in three result pages and three sites are in two search results.

The rest of the results are specific for that country only. In the Australia search result for the top 10 there is only one.com name - the rest are.com.au

Therefore in a total of 25 search results (top 5 from 5 search results) 9 show up more than once and 16 are all unique.

So why are so many sites and people promoting that you need a.com domain name? Probably because they are based in the US where a.com domain name is very important and they do need a.com domain name or they have not looked into this issue to find out if they really need a.com domain name.
